Paul Tiao is a partner in the Cybersecurity and Privacy practice group at Hunton Andrews Kurth and founder and co-chair of the firm's Energy Sector Security Team. Paul has in-depth knowledge of cybersecurity risk management, investigations, litigation, law and policy. He is cybersecurity counsel to major energy and other critical infrastructure companies, and provides advice and representation on preparedness, incident response, and the SAFETY Act.

Prior to joining Hunton, Paul served as Senior Counselor for Cybersecurity and Technology to FBI Director Robert S. Mueller, and Judiciary Committee Counsel to U.S. Senate Assistant Majority Leader Richard Durbin. He is a former Assistant U.S. Attorney in Maryland and Trial Attorney at the U.S. Justice Department. Based in Washington, DC, Paul is an appointed member of the Maryland Cybersecurity Council and Virginia Cybersecurity Commission. He regularly lectures at energy conferences nationwide. Paul has an MPA from the Woodrow Wilson School at Princeton, JD from Columbia Law School, and SB in electrical engineering from MIT.
